Teaching Practical Ethics for the Social Professions

Livre rédigé par Sarah Banks et Kirsten Nøhr

FESET

Les contributions sont écrites en anglais, mais les contributeurs viennent d'un éventail de pays européens – du Finlande au Portugal – et ils font donc usage des idées et des documentations littéraires variées.

Les rédactrices disent:

In recent years there has been an increasing focus on ethics in society. In the social professions, where people are confronted with the responsibility for others and their needs, ethical questions will often appear as ethical dilemmas - complicated and not easily dealt with.

In the European Social Ethics Project (ESEP), a group of teachers and researchers from different institutions involved in education and training for the social professions has worked to develop methods for teaching ethics in ways that encourage the students to become ‘reflective practitioners’. Members of the group have undertaken several small research projects using individual questionnaires and video-recordings of group discussions that have been designed to enable us to learn more about how students learn, as well as developing teaching and learning materials. The work of the ESEP forms the core of this book, which focuses on the question: How can teachers encourage students to develop the qualities, skills and understanding to work out how to act in difficult situations involving ethical dilemmas and problems?

Written in a clear and accessible style, with details of teaching methods and examples of materials for use in class, the book will be of great value to lecturers, tutors and practitioners in the fields of social work, social pedagogy, community work, youth work and a variety of related fields in the caring and welfare professions.
